Ages Past - Boss Rush 1
A downloadable asset pack
Sometimes you just need something to punch.
Skull Dragon
- 40x48 size
- 8 directional movement!
- Has a roar/flamethrower attack and a charge--also directional
- It can also be stunned
- It has 39 unique frames total, not counting flips
- Also I threw in a bonus sheet that's just its floating skull
Sunlit Beast
- 40x32 size
- Six-directional movement (sides, and front and back diagonals--no pure front or back sprites). Really it works fine with just the front diagonals.
- Mostly it runs around being a big lion dog with claws! It also roars!
- The diagonal directions have a little one-frame hop--just enough to shift it into position while still looking natural.
- It has an alternate skin, the Sunlight Form. For when you need to fight something less bestial and more divine.
- 25 unique frames (23 for Sunlight Form)
Gelatinous Cube
- 32x32 base size, up until it starts stretching itself out. It's very jiggly.
- Four-directional, kiiiiiiind of. It can move by lurching, but also it is a cube with no face.
- Has a lurching movement, a ground pound, and a 4-directional summon where it spits out a cubeling minion
- Like a proper slime, it makes even more cubelings when it dies (4 or 8 variants)
- The cubelings roll around, and can also split further
- 26 unique frames of animation, counting the cubelings as a separate monster
Monarch Ascendant
- You might recognize this one from Zelda Classic! I edited a couple of the old frames, and then expanded it hard.
- 32x32, mostly! Monarch Orange stretches to 48x32 for a couple individual frames
- 8 directional movement, both on the ground and in flight
- Directional attacks (these are ground-based), and front-facing casting and landing animations.
- Two bosses for the price of one! Seriously, Monarch Orange and Monarch Green are basically just different bosses, who both happen to be butterflies and use the same attacks. (Mostly. Monarch Green got a little something extra, which'll make more sense if you've seen my character pack.)
- 38 unique frames for Monarch Orange; 43 for Monarch Green.
Hello, GB Studio users! I tried!
I'm definitely more of a "take the gameboy aesthetic and wear its skin" kind of lady. You might have noticed this when I put 39 frames onto a 40x48 dragon.
But I did put a good faith effort into making these usable in GB Studio, if not in their full 8-directional glory. I've enclosed a folder with some optimizations, and frame by frame notes on how many 8x16 sprite tiles the bosses are taking up. I've never done this before, so please tell me if there's anything I can do to improve here.
(Optimized Gelatinous Cube is the messiest at 131 sprite tiles--this is without the 8-way divide, which, please don't do that in gameboy. Monarch and Skull Dragon as 4-way sprites are both a little bit under 130. Sunlight Beast with front diagonals only is 59 sprite tiles. )

Speaking of which, Moosh made the sample video, including all the boss-programming work that entailed, and also helped out a ton with testing. The projectiles used are included in this pack, except the Sunlit Beast's fireballs, which are Sodacoma's. (Please note that this set is only selling the spritesheets, not the code.)
The background tiles in the video and screenshots were all made with Sodacoma's Awakening tileset.
The music in the video is Underground Overground by Ratticus Vile--you can get it here.
